Seattle AIDS Walk 2010 : Seattle AIDS Walk 2010 - Signs and Shoes 2010 is my third AIDS walk. I've never been an 'official' walker. I walk to support Ms. T and to photograph her and to photograph the event. You can see the previous years on this share site (click "AIDS Walk above). Those galleries attempt to convey something of the overall flavor of the Seattle AIDS walk. This year I picked a theme - Signs, because the AIDS walk and AIDS itself is political. Nothing says 'political action' in the today's world like someone carrying a sign on a stick. Shoes because this is a walk, and nothing is as important on a walk as shoes and socks. There are other images here - costumes, luminaries, volunteers, people who caught my eye. I am a documentarian as well a a commentator. I'm not worried this will dilute anything. Context is always important. Please enjoy, and please add comments at the bottom. Thank you! A.M.

Genealogy : Images 1 through 71 comprise all the documentation that is in the file folder given to me by Karen several years ago. I was once told that the order of the documents in this folder is relevant. Several people, including myself. have been through this folder since I've had it. I'm pretty sure not all of us put everything back where we found it. I have made an effort to preserve the order of things as I find them on March 30th 2010. The Chart file names start with a number that reflects the order they were in the folder. Photos that seem to be associated with a Chart are given the same name as the Chart, plus "Photo XF" or "Photo XB" — where "F"=front and "B"=back side. If there is no B, then there was nothing on the back. Images 72 through 99 are from a montage I made sometime in the 1980's out of the best family photos I could fine at the time. Images 100 and 101 are the title page and relevant entry from volume II of The History of the Yakima Valley. Image 102 is a page from an Everett High School yearbook that was found on-line. It shows Wenonah Myrtle Marshal in the bottom row. Image 103 is the Yale Divinity School class of 1910. W.H.L. Marshal (my grandfather) is second from the left in the fifth row down. NOTE: This is a high resolution Image - You can enlarge it enough to read the names. But be patient, it's big and slow. Image 104 is a photo of Carl E. Bergstrom and Wenonah M. Bergstrom grave markers. Images 105 and 106 were taken at Peter and Michala Chitwood's wedding Image 107 is a Larry and Karen Chitwood family portrait - I am not sure of the date Image 108 is a montage of family photos made by Larry Chitwood and sent as a late Christmas card. If you know anything about these people or these photos, please leave comments at the bottom. If you need =really= high resolution files, ask me.

Koreshan State Park FL 2/10 : Koreshans believed the earth is hollow and we live on the inside surface. One of the most interesting things about them is looking at the ways they rationalized their beliefs and refuted the considerable evidence that contradicted what they had been taught. There's a fair bit of this stuff preserved at the site. They did have a lot of progressive ideas, notably universal suffrage for women in the 1800s (!). Indeed, the governing body of the sect was all female, even if the leader/founder was male. They did make a good start on building their New Jerusalem, managing build and operate a sawmill, printing facility, school, boat works, cement works, bakery, laundry, orchestra, and electrical generation and power to their enterprises and residences. Thomas Edison visited them to see their electric installations and confered with their engineers. In spite of their progressive social and technical achievements, they had many of the trappings that most of us would recognize as a cult. It would be fair to draw parallels to the Rajneesh cult in Oregon a few decades ago.

Dual Land Use - Rotating Crops : Klondike wind farm near Wasco OR, USA This is part of the future of power generation everywhere. It's informative to note that the expected life of one of these generators is 30 years and the break-even point for the paying back the cost is 15 years. I don't know what the break even point is for the carbon release from construction. I note that the blades that catch the wind are made in China using coal-fired power.
